Basic Necessities Hygiene Drive

Imagine having to choose between food and rent, or the very barest of necessities such as deodorant and toothpaste. That is the choice some people have to make each week. The Basic Necessities Hygiene Ministry accepts hygiene/toiletry donations (ie: deodorant, full size shampoo) for two different kits that are then given to our Grace Place Food Pantry guests, and the other kit goes to the homeless & near homeless who attend the Grace United Meal each month.

You may also pick up a shopping list at The Hub

Provide a Meal for Ronald McDonald Family Room

It is hard for parents to get a wholesome meal while attending their children in Children's Mercy Hospital. The Ronald McDonald Family Room inside the downtown Kansas City hospital makes it possible for families to get a warm meal without having to leave the hospital. Help provide meals to the families of children at Children's Mercy Hospital. Our team helps prepare and deliver the food!

Food donations can be dropped off at the Lee's Summit campus the morning of the meal any time before 11:30 a.m. Please provide containers you do not need returned. Servers will receive a call prior to the day of the meal to coordinate meeting location and time. Plan to be at Children's Mercy's with your driver's license from around 4:30-6:30 p.m. Children over 9 are welcome to serve.

Join the team by signing up here! You’ll be added to our Ronald McDonald Group, where you can sign up as able to donate food or serve the meal at the beginning of each month!

Hillcrest Gala & Auction

The 19th Annual Hillcrest Gala & Auction will be held Thursday, August 22 at the Arrowhead North Club at Chiefs Stadium (tickets are $125, purchase here).

Woods Chapel is a major supporter of Hillcrest Transitional Housing; last year, we donated 30 gift items and scholarships  totaling over $3100 in value to be auctioned.  Our goal this year is to donate at least 40 items – gift certificates or gift baskets.  Some gift basket ideas:  university and sports-themed items, chocolate, golf, movies and entertainment, Chiefs, Royals, gourmet, child’s birthday, BBQ, Disney, pamper, spa -- or put together your own unique combination! Gift certificates for pizza, movies, golf, restaurants, sports, etc. also generate lots of bids! If you’d like to contribute toward the Scholarship Fund, cash donations are always welcome. Donations are due August 16!

If you would like to donate, please contact Fern Truschke Stuart.

July Back to School Drive

  • Woods Chapel United Methodist Church (map)
  • Google Calendar ICS

Although the cost of backpacks, notebooks, binders, crayons, and colored pencils add up, these items are essential to starting the school year right. For some families, there just isn’t enough money in the budget to buy them, essential or not.

The Woods Chapel Back to School Drive will help over 300 students head back to school with the tools they need start school with confidence and to succeed throughout the year!

How You Can Help

  1. Pick up a tag and instructions at The HUB Sundays in July (7, 14, 21, 28). The tag will have a list of supplies needed. You can also sign up online to receive a tag via email.

  2. Once you have your tag, shop for a backpack and fill it with the supplies needed!

  3. Return to Woods Chapel Church at The HUB or Front Office, no later than August 4!

The back to school drive in Lee’s Summit will supply backpacks and supplies to local schools, as well as organizations such as Hillcrest Transitional Housing, Camino Verdad y Vida, and more.
